My 10 Inch Tablets Review
I’ve been a small laptop/netbook lover for some time now. I was one of the guys that could not wait to buy the first netbook Asus released – the 701 EEEPc. Since that time I’ve been doing upgrades on it just to make it more comfortable to work with. I even modded it to be like a tablet. Removed the keyboard, added touch and bought a housing for the screen that replaces the keyboard. But as time passed by my job has slightly changed and I had to work on my mini netbook/tablet and as you know 7 inch is good for entertainment like movies on the go, some music and even net browsing, but if you open a Excel sheet or do some document editing, it is far from comfortable. So I started searching for a bigger screen. I tested some 13 inch laptops from Sony and although they are nice and fast and everything, they tend to be a little bit bigger that I wanted. So I decided to find a 10 inch Android tablet and use it when I’m travelling.
Believe me, choosing a tablet in the 10 inch range is not an easy task. Currently the market is flooded with so many options in every price range and productivity range you can think of.
First I checked the famous Apple iPad models. iPad is such a nice entertainment device. It really is! But try to do some real work on it. For this task it failed. I also checked some Windows based tablets. Although it’s nice to have the MS Office suite installed and just use it as I am used to on my office PC, the Windows based tablets don’t have enough power to run the OS and applications fast enough. So the only other options is Android. Looking at the Android market you can surely find the apps that will do the job.
Choosing the brand and model
There are a few things you want to make sure you check before you choose the brand and model of an 10 inch Android tablet.
I would advise you to stay away from the generic brand products. A friend bought a 7 inch Android tablet just for the fun of it and he is not happy at all. Not only the touch screen is inaccurate, but the tablet is slow and most of the time you wait for something to load instead of doing anything else.
Screen size. The Android tablets in the 10 inch area come in different screen sizes. They vary from 9.7 to 10.2 inches. The difference of about half inch is not that big to worry about so you better discard it. The thing that matters is the resolution. In this field bigger is better and resolution of 1280×800 pixels like in the Samsung Galaxy Tab is a great option.
Processor. There is only one possible wise option here. You should buy a dual core tablet. It is way faster that single core and the wait time is much less.
Storage capacity. Here the more is always better, but it only depends on your budget. The difference between the models with 16 and 32 GB of storage is about $100, so if you have a spare $100 spend it.
Other. As you will also want to communicate with the world Wi-Fi is a must. So is a built in microphone and camera.
My reccomedation
I reviewed a lot of different models and brands and at the end my choice was one. I selected the Samsng Galaxy Tab 10 inch Android tablet for a few main reasons.
The display is with 1280×800 pixels resolution and it looks fantastic. It does not matter if I’m running movies from Youtube or from the hard disk, which by the way is 32 GB, or I am editing an Excel sheet or even reading a PDF. The screen is clear and bright.
The processor is Dual Core Tegra 2 by NVIDIA. It delivers enough power so I don’t notice any real delay in most of the tasks. This saves me some frustration and time.
The operating system is Android Honeycomb 3.1 which is one of the latest versions. Some of the tablets I reviewed came with Android 2.2 and some online tests state that upgrading to 3.0 or later is not reccomended. Selecting one of the two versions is like choosing between Windows XP and Windows 7 (Windows Vista is way behind those two).
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10 inch Android tablet has all of the other features I want in a tablet. It has two cameras. One 3 megapixel camera on the back for taking some on the road photos or videos and one VGA camera on the front for video calls and showing my friends the nice places I’m at
It also has Wi-Fi a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1.
This tablet comes with the usual accessories included. In the box I got my tablet, earphones, USB 2.0 cable, charger and plug and 30-pin IF connector plus the manual and registration card.
Where to Buy Samsung Galaxy Tab 10 inch Android tablet?
I bought my 32 GB Galaxy Tab from Amazon. They had the best price and free shipping and it came for 3 days. They also have the 16 GB model which also has free shipping.
